Aprille Franks-Hunt
Aprille Franks-Hunt is an author, speaker, life & business advisor, as well as a savvy business professional, who walked away from a successful career to pursue her passion of inspiring women beyond motivation. Her book, Confessions of an Independent Woman: Truth, Lies & Relationships releases in fall of 2011. Aprille is natural born leader and the Creator/CEO of Women Recharged, a powerful movement designed to spread the global message of transformation through Aprille’s compelling LIVE, LEARN, and THRIVE mantra.
Aprille is also embedded in the business community consulting with small business owners, speaking at conferences, events and workshops. Aprille’s tenacity and determination also landed her first national speaking engagement on the stage of Women for Hire’s CEO, Tory Johnson’s Spark & Hustle Women’s Business Conference in Atlanta, Ga. As a result she has been sought after by other organizations to deliver her candid messages to women on a vast array of topics. Aprille is also responsible for bringing the first edition of CRAVE, The Urban Girls Manifesto, a guide featuring women entrepreneurs, to Oklahoma.
She’s also the co-host of Oklahoma’s own KSBI’s, All About You, a show dedicated to empowering and informing women. Additionally, she has been featured in several print publications and radio outlets for her business savvy.
Through all of these platforms, Aprille candidly shares her life experiences with honesty and transparency, revealing how it has helped her to become the woman she is today. She is passionately dedicated to the advancement of women personally and professionally. Her sassy, funny, down-to-earth style makes her the virtual best friend and advisor that every woman needs – when they are ready to embrace the truth. She continues to be an inspiration to many.
Aprille lives just outside Oklahoma City, Ok (Norman) with her husband and two teenagers.
What made you think of the idea Women Recharged?
I knew I wanted to do something, and I knew I had too. I literally woke up and said I’m going to start a fan page. I was in the middle of writing my book at that point and felt that I had things to share and if I did, so did others. I was right in that, women needed to be recharged. I am loving it—it’s taken a life of it’s own.
What will your new book Confessions of an Independent Woman be about?
Confessions of an Independent Woman: Truth, Lies & Relationships is about me telling my truth as to why I made some of the decisions I made as a young woman. Where my dating dysfunctions came from and why I identified with the Independent Woman mantra. I speak on overcoming rape and emotionally abusive relationships—I speak on self value and finding my own voice—my own truth. This book is about the freedom to live, learn and thrive through it all.
What made you want to become an entrepreneur? Is it a story behind it?
I think it chose me and is in my blood. There is no other way to be for me. I enjoy starting new ventures and developing new concepts from my mind. It’s an enjoyable feeling to love what you do and make a living as well. I will say it’s easier to be an “employee”, but I wouldn’t trade my freedom of time and free thinking for anything!
How did you grow to such an engaging social media presence?
I asked them what they wanted and gave it to them on a consistent basis. I have never missed a day of engagement since I launched the page in February 2011. I think it’s really important that once you start something so personal with people, especially women, to not let them down. I realized in the beginning that I am responsible for what I deliver because people are watching and need authentic guidance. It is hard work for sure.
What advice would you give to a person that’s trying to write their first book right now?
Ah! I am asked this often. My response is always, 1) get a coach 2) start writing and 3) develop a platform. If you don’t do these 3 things among others but these for sure, you are not ready to be a published author, in my opinion.
Who was your inspiration when writing your book? Why?
The women of women recharged gave me inspiration. I knew that they had a voice and many were afraid to use it. I knew this book would not only set me free, but give others the courage to use their own voice and live their truth as well.
Where would you like to be one year from now? How would you like your business to look and what success would you like to see from your book?
What a great question….I’d like to be happier than I am now—if I can stand it. I want more evidence of women being inspired to move beyond motivation and change their lives as a result of the Women Recharged platform, coaching and leadership. We’ll be launching our Coaching website soon for women to join and have the tools they need to improve in all areas of their lives.
Additionally, Confessions of an Independent Women: Truth, Lies & Relationships is a best seller…I just want the world to know it. My goal is that this will begin a global movement of truth, sharing and progress for women. I will be writing another book for women to tell their stories or on success—maybe both, we’ll see.
What is three pieces of advice you would give any person trying to reach their dreams in life?
- Get to know who you are and when you know yourself be brave enough to BE yourself.
- Distance yourself from negative people
- Don’t quit and know that falling down is a part of the journey.
